Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions
- Clinical Assessment & Patient Care Delivery – Performs comprehensive patient evaluations, diagnoses conditions, and provides ongoing medical care for patients in a behavioral health in-paitent setting.
- Diagnostic Evaluation & Clinical Decision-Making – Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and applies clinical judgment to guide evidence-based treatment decisions.
- Medication Management & Safety – Prescribes and manages medications, monitors effectiveness and side effects, and ensures safe, compliant medication practices.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication – Collaborates with healthcare teams and communicates effectively to support coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Emergency Response & Consultation Services – Responds to medical emergencies and provides timely consultations to support patient safety and stabilization.
- Care Coordination & Transitions of Care – Coordinates referrals, discharge planning, and follow-up care to ensure continuity and quality outcomes.
- Documentation & Medical Record Management – Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
- Regulatory Compliance & Patient Safety – Adheres to all regulatory requirements, safety standards, and organizational policies.
- Quality Improvement & Professional Conduct – Participates in quality initiatives and demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and ethical practice.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience evaluating and managing medically complex psychiatric inpatients.
- Experience in managing chronic medical conditions, substance withdrawal, delirium, and medication side effects.
- Experience respond to medical emergencies and coordinate higher-level care when needed.
- Experience collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with electronic health record documentation and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and associated medical complications.
- Knowledge of inpatient psychiatric regulations and safety standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working independently while maintaining collaborative relationships.
- Knowledge of cultural competence and trauma-informed care approach.
- Experience remaining calm and effective in high-acuity behavioral

Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
- OR
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
