Job Description:
Job Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer
Status: Exempt, Full-time, 10-Month Schedule
Overview: Augustana College, an NCAA Division III school located in Rock Island, Illinois, is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Certified Athletic Trainer for the 2024-25 academic year. Competing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), about 1/3 of the Augustana student population competes in one of 28 varsity sports. When it comes to Academic All-Americans, Augustana is #1 in our conference and #13 in all NCAA divisions, a testament to our commitment to academic and athletic excellence. This role will plan, oversee, execute and evaluate a comprehensive offering of athletic training services to meet the diverse needs of the College's student-athletes and coaches. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work closely with outside medical professionals, and other interested parties. Sport assignments will likely include baseball, men's basketball and men's water polo.
Essential Duties:
- Aids in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of orthopedic and general medical injuries/illnesses utilizing all the resources within the community, includes documentation in the sports medicine EMR in a timely manner.
- Medical sideline care relating to pre-practice, practice, post-practice and athletic team competition needs for all sports as assigned.
- Helps coordinate the development of treatment/rehabilitation programs for specific injuries and illnesses for short-term and long-term care.
- Supervision of student first responder staff.
- Assist with the purchases/inventory of athletic training equipment and supplies.
- Instructor in elective athletic training courses as assigned including First Aid/CPR.
- Helps to maintain a clean, healthy and safe work place.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. BOC Certified Athletic Trainer. State of Illinois license or eligible. First Aid/CPR instructor desired (we will help with certification).
Skills & Experience:
- 2+ years of athletic training preferred but willing to have conversation with new graduates
- Understanding the NCAA Division III institution experience is beneficial
- Ability to work effectively with professional and student staff to create excellent work outcomes
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have the ability to relate to a diverse group of students-athletes, coaches and campus community members and possess strong prioritization and organizational skills
- Well-versed in many athletic training principles/techniques and able to adapt to a variety of athletic/sport situations
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must be able to lift, move, push and pull in excess of 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time.
- Ability to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time
- Must be able to move around campus which includes gym, turf and grass fields
Special Requirements: This position requires frequent long work days, evening and weekend work, and limited time off during assigned sports seasons. Work may be required in extreme weather conditions. As key personnel representing the College, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to relate to a diverse population, and the ability and willingness to model the mission and high standard of behavior of Augustana College.
Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check and have a valid drivers' license with the ability to be insured by the college.
