Financial Aid Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in from a four-year college or university in business administration, education, or related field, preferred or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and at least 4 years of appropriate experience; master’s degree preferred
- At least 2-3 years experience with student financial aid programs
- Demonstrated basic accounting skills and business office experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the administration of state and federal student financial aid programs including legal requirements, deadlines, and reporting requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
- Excellent Customer Service Skills a must
- Must be knowledgeable on how to conduct conflict resolution
- Ability to multi-task
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Financial Aid Director with all aspects of the Federal student aid.
- Show competency in institutional and Federal policies and procedures to assist in compliance with Federal regulations.
- Provides advising to prospective applicants and students regarding all aspects of financial aid such as application process, need calculation, rights and responsibilities of aid recipients.
- Support the collection of required documentation and processing of forms related to Federal student aid.
- Serve as an information resource for incoming students, transfers, and re-entering students and support them through graduation.
- Promote and assist in development of Financial Aid presence using social media and advancements in the Excelsior website.
- Assist with developing, revising, and updating processes of the financial aid office related to Federal programs and other aid programs administered by the College.
- Support the development of the whole student by providing excellent customer service and resolution of issues through telephone, email, and preparation of written correspondence.
- Stay current with knowledge and use of financial aid software
- Work to promote academic success, increase retention, decrease time toward graduation, and improve the overall educational experience of student.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the needs of the Office of Financial Aid and the students we serve.
- Review financial aid applications, including verifications, dependency overrides, and special circumstances, and package awards, in compliance with federal, state institutional financial aid programs and their corresponding regulation, processes, and procedures.
- Conducts financial aid workshops
