Job Duties: Located in the Dean's Office at the Sheldon B. Lubar College of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Financial Specialist III, reporting to the Divisional Finance Officer, provides administrative support for financial processes and reporting. This position will work closely with the College's Accountant, campus Accounting Services staff, Purchasing Services staff, Human Resources staff, UWM Foundation staff, other campus service units and suppliers. This is a part-time position. The selected finalist can chose between a .5 - .8 schedule, 20 - 32 weekly hours.
Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions. Reconciles transactions. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for faculty, staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. Recommends controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
- Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
- Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
- Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
- Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
- Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations
- Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
- May train staff on financial processes and best practices
Compensation: $30,000 to $48,000 based on a part-time FTE (.5 - .8).
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of accounting, finance, or business administration experience.
- Evidence of excellent organizational and customer service skills and techniques
- Evidence of excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in Excel and ability to create complex spreadsheets and reports.
- Experience with university procurement and travel systems.
- Ability to multitask and transition quickly between priorities to address specific situations.
- Experience in accounting or financial area(s) in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge and experience with gift funds.
- Knowledge and experience of Workday or other financial and administrative software and systems.
- Experience advising or training staff on financial systems.
