Fire Safety Advisor
An exciting opportunity to join the university’s central Safety, Health and Environment Department is available for a highly motivated individual, to help meet the growing demands of a modern, outward-facing university.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Safety, Health and Environment, you will provide an advisory and monitoring service on the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant successor fire safety legislation or standards, to ensure a coordinated strategic approach to the management of fire safety risk, the achievement of a positive culture and high standards of fire safety performance.
Within this collaborative, cross-discipline team, you will undertake the functions of a ‘competent person’; conduct and review fire risk assessments; review building fire strategies; conduct DSEAR Risk Assessments; and review the university’s Fire Risk Management Plan and relevant Policy documents.
In addition, you will carry out fire safety audits and inspections of university buildings; deliver fire safety training; devise emergency plans for university buildings; communicate and implement annual fire drill programmes; advise on fire risk management to Faculties and Professional Services; and liaise with our Estate Development Department concerning building alterations, passive fire detection and firefighting equipment.
Key to success in this role will be a consultative and facilitative style of service delivery, with resilience to ensure that failings are challenged and resolved, with the ability to build internal and external relationships, based on trust and confidence, to engender a co-operative and collaborative environment.
You will be a graduate, or have relevant experience, with membership of a relevant professional organisation and qualified to Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety, or IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Science or Fire Safety, or CFPA Level 4 Diploma, or other recognised professional qualification. You will also be on a nationally recognised Fire Risk Assessors register.
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.
This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.
