  • Remuneration: $120,443 to $131,749 pa (HEW7) (inclusive of $101,775 to $111,330 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Fire Safety and Emergency Management Advisor to join Campus Services, Administrative Division.

The Fire Safety and Emergency Management Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive emergency preparedness and response strategies for QUT campuses, including distributed sites. This role ensures the university-wide and local area programs meet all emergency management responsibilities and standards. The position oversees emergency response training, equipment, processes, and arrangements, identifying and addressing emergency deficiencies within the university. This role ensures that emergency procedures and evacuation programs comply with legislation and required standards. As a senior advisory position, the role guides fire safety planning and compliance across new builds and facilities, integrating modern fire safety systems with emergency management processes to ensure QUT meets contemporary standards and leverages emerging technologies.

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training, and/or relevant experience equivalent to a degree, combined with subsequent experience in fire safety systems and emergency management technologies.
  2. Possession of a current Fire Safety Advisor qualification or extensive relevant experience in fire safety advisory roles within complex organisational environments.
  3. Current ‘C’ Class driver’s licence.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including emergency services and regulatory bodies.
  5. Proven experience in identifying and addressing deficiencies in emergency response systems, implementing corrective actions, and continuously improving emergency preparedness practices through the design and implementation of innovative, technology-driven solutions.
  6. Demonstrated experience in developing and executing emergency and fire safety procedural plans, training programs, including evacuation exercises, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, legislation, and best practices for a large organisation.
  7. Proven experience in providing expert advice to reduce institutional risk, including the ability to guide compliance across new builds and facilities, and integrate modern fire safety systems with emergency management processes.
  8. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations quickly and develop effective solutions to enhance emergency preparedness and response.
