Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to deliver a diverse range of professional accounting services to both NKU and the NKU Foundation. These services encompass transaction processing, meticulous financial account reconciliation, in-depth account analysis and reporting and fixed asset accounting.

These critical functions cater to the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, this position assumes backup responsibilities for specific duties within the University and Foundation during absences, ensuring seamless operational continuity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries and assist with monthly account reconciliations
  • Support tracking and recording of University equipment and capital assets, including coordinating inventory and tagging
  • Help review purchasing and financial activity to ensure accurate accounting and policy compliance
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations between financial systems and related databases, researching and resolving differences
  • Respond to routine accounting questions from campus departments and help prepare standard reports
  • Support annual inventory verification and maintain required records
  • Review and analyze purchasing card transactions for proper coding and compliance, following up as needed
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities, including audit preparation
  • Work collaboratively with senior accountants to extract data and support internal and external reporting
  • Provide general support to campus users in resolving basic account and transaction issues
  • Perform other related duties that support the financial operations of the University Foundation

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis functions
  • Ability to learn financial systems and work effectively in a collaborative environment
Preferred (but not required)
  • Internship, part‑time, or entry‑level experience in accounting, finance, or auditing
  • Coursework or exposure to accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Workday or similar enterprise systems)
