Job Duties:

A Food Service Assistant prepares food and completes related tasks according to quality and safety standards to ensure satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals. Provides oversight for the set-up and maintenance of all front of the house service-related tasks and ensures a clean and safe service area. This position works closely with students, student managers, and limited term employees to serve customers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • 20% Performs routine food preparation activities such as portioning, chopping food, and serving food to customers
  • 20% Assists and guides student workers
  • 20% Greets customers, answers questions, and provides basic information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • 10% Prepares a variety of basic dishes and assists in the preparation of more complex dishes
  • 10% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 10% Adheres to federal, state, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • 10% Coordinate and perform the set-up and clean-up of preparation, production, service areas, and equipment

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares a variety of basic dishes such as sandwiches and salads, and assists in the preparation of more complex dishes
  • Adheres to federal, state, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Performs routine food preparation activities such as portioning, chopping food, and serving food to customers

Department:
The mission of Restaurant Operations is to provide a quality dining experience at an affordable price that enhances campus life and supports the overall mission of the University. It is the responsibility of Restaurant Operations to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, contribute fair-share support to the University, and sustain adequate reserves for future growth.

Number of Positions: 2

Tentative Schedule: Monday-Friday: 6:00am-2:30pm

Compensation: $15/hr-$17/hr

Required Qualifications:

  • Six months of food service experience in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of food service experience in a professional setting
  • ServSafe Certification, Food Handler or Manager certification
  • Experience leading and /or training staff
  • Experience in a customer service environment
