Fraternity/Sorority Life and Community Living Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Fraternity/Sorority Life and Community Living Coordinator is a full-time, live-on professional staff member responsible for advancing student success, engagement, and community standards through a balanced portfolio in Residence Life and Fraternity/Sorority Life. The Coordinator advises fraternities, sororities, and governing councils while providing leadership for a residential community consisting of theme, fraternity, and sorority houses and apartments for upper division students. The Coordinator is accountable for staff supervision, student leadership advising, program implementation, risk management, and day-to-day operations within both functional areas. This position plays a key role in fostering inclusive, safe, and developmentally supportive environments, responding to student needs and emergencies, and collaborating with campus partners to support institutional and Student Affairs goals.
Supervision Received/Exercised:
This position is supervised by the Associate Director-Student Engagement and the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing Operations and supervises house and apartment managers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Fraternity/Sorority Life
- Advise and support fraternities, sororities, and governing councils (Interfraternity and Panhellenic)
- Coordinate fall and winter recruitment in alignment with institutional and national standards
- Plan and deliver leadership development, community building, and educational programming
- Implement and oversee risk management initiatives, including alcohol education, bystander intervention, and anti-hazing training
- Support student leaders through mentoring, officer transitions, and retreats
- Collaborate with chapter advisors to support chapter development
- Maintain accurate rosters, academic reports, assessment data, and FSL-related budgets
- Serve in an on-call capacity related to fraternity and sorority housing and events
Residence Life
- Supervise, train, and mentor student House and Apartment Managers, including hiring and performance evaluation
- Develop and implement residential programming that supports student success, retention, and community building
- Oversee daily operations and administrative functions for apartment buildings and theme, fraternity, and sorority houses
- Manage residential programming and operational budgets
- Support major residence life processes such as opening, closing, housing selection, and summer housing
- Participate in professional staff duty and emergency response rotation
Collaboration & Service
- Build strong working relationships with faculty, staff, advisors, and students
- Serve on departmental, divisional, or campus-wide committees as assigned
- Model professional, ethical, and inclusive behavior at all times
- Perform additional duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in residence life, Fraternity/Sorority Life, or a related area
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience advising fraternities and sororities and/or supporting recruitment processes
- Experience in residence life and/or housing operations
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
Additional Information:
Compensation includes furnished on-campus apartment and meal plan during regular dining service.
