Job Description
The Library is seeking students for employment. The position is funded by the university. All undergraduate students looking for employment are welcome to apply.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet patrons that approach the service desk
- Answer informational, directional and service questions, in-person, over the phone and on chat
- Assist patrons with searching for items in the library catalog; Referring patrons to reference staff as necessary
- Check library materials out to users, process returns and create study room reservations
- Provide technology assistance, such as maintaining printers by refilling paper and toner, fixing paper jams, helping patrons with scanners, laminator, wifi, etc.
- Load book carts, sort books and shelve items, maintain order in the stacks by assisting in stacks maintenance activities: shelf reading, inventory, shifting, pick-ups, sorting, searching for missing items, cleaning and special projects
- Assist with course reserve processing, interlibrary loan and scanning
- Assist with the opening and closing of library
- Assist with user experience activities such as surveys, data collection and data entry.
- Opportunity to participate in displays and activities such as Finals crafts and goodie bags.
Requirements
Proactive and friendly customer service attitude. Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written). Ability to perform detail-oriented tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Dependable and responsible. Professional demeanor. Self-motivated; ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to lift heavy books, move carts and have tolerance for exposure to dust.
Additional Information
Hourly rate is $15.00. Hiring for the Fall 2026 semester. Hours could range from 7:45am - 11:30pm (Midnight during finals), Monday through Sunday. There will be an annual group training which is mandatory.
