Job Description:

General Statement of Duties:

Summer Resident Assistants are undergraduate staff members employed by the Department of Housing and Residential Services. The overall responsibility of a Summer RA is to provide leadership, assistance, and support to residents and guests living in the residence halls during the university's summer period. Summer RAs work in cooperation with, and at the direction of, professional staff to facilitate and maximize the residence hall experience during the summer period. Summer RAs are instrumental in creating an atmosphere of quality interaction, sharing accountability, and civic responsibility.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Duty rotation
    • One RA will be on duty at a time carrying the on-call phone.
    • Duty will be in 24-hour shifts. Example: noon to noon each day, though exact phone pass time flexible to the RAs decision during duty selection. Phone must be held at all times.
    • When on call: being within 15 minutes of campus, able to respond within 15 minutes of being called, and sleeping in your on-campus summer assigned space.
    • Adhere to any blackout dates during the period of employment to support operations (See: Qualifications section).
  2. Conference Support
    • Support check-ins/check-out
    • Provide supplemental support to groups, i.e. parking directions, campus building locations, etc.
    • Provide onsite support and direction for summer conference attendees including residence in area when applicable
    • Walk spaces after each check-out and before each check-in.
    • Provided necessary sweep out of rooms when required.
    • Process linens; including washing laundry, making beds, etc.
    • Set-up each room as required by specifications; i.e. tvs, chairs, welcome bags, etc.
    • Operate front desk in designated residence halls when required.
    • Support programmatic efforts.
  3. Thoroughly read and agree to parameters set in the Master Card agreement in regards to accessing residential spaces for the purposes of conducting lock-out support and room checks.
  4. Develop and implement programs that meet needs as designated by supervisor(s).
  5. Assist the professional staff with administrative duties and tasks (i.e. maintenance issues, functional assignments, opening and closing procedures, inventories, lock-outs, etc.).
  6. Conduct office hours in Main Housing as needed, 20 hours weekly.
  7. Adhere to the designated dress attire when actively working.
  8. Support departmental summer projects when assistance is requested.
  9. If intending to work another job (on or off campus) during the dates of employment listed above, receiving approval from supervising professional staff member is required.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  1. Priority placement is given to applicants who have worked previously in the Department of Housing & Residential Services.
  2. Students on the May 2026 graduation list are not eligible to apply for this position.
  3. Must be available for Conference Schedule dates arrival, in-house and departure and high traffic.
    • *Please note that dates may shift on an event or dates may be added. Staff will be notified as soon as possible to coordinate coverage on later added/shifted dates*
    • May 17-22 - Trainings/Wrapping up Spring Closing tasks.
    • Orientations - June 8 thru June 16.
    • Bridge Move in June 25.
    • RYLA June 26-28.
    • Upward Bound MWCC June 29 - July 31.
    • Upward Bound Math & Science, June 18 - August 7.
    • Athletes arrive week of August 10.
    • Conferences/other dates subject to addition/change.
  4. Position works approximately 20 hours per week.
  5. May request dates off as the Conference Schedule is made available.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a Resident Assistant.

Additional Information:

Room: Room is a condition of employment. The role is a required live-in position.

Remuneration and Benefits:

  1. Waiver for housing during the period of employment.
  2. Pay is $15 per hour of office work
