Student Assistant
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant within the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant will perform supervised research in the area of cancer metabolism. The goal of the research program is to inspire, motivate and educate the student through mentored cancer research training, co-curricular support, and professional development activities. The Student Assistant will engage in research and program related activities focusing on cancer under the supervision of the Program Director/Research Mentors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives hands-on training in cutting-edge cancer research.
- Conducts research in mentor-supervised laboratories in summer.
- Participates in educational seminars as available.
- Attends workshops, seminars, lectures and career development activities as available.
- Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Current Rutgers undergraduate student who wishes to prepare for a STEM career, preferably in biomedical cancer research, required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Lab environment. Moderate noise.
- Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases.
- Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
