Full Professorship (W2) for Evolving Imaging and Photography

The Faculty of Architecture and Design is seeking a Full Professorship (W2) for Evolving Imaging and Photography (m/f/d), starting March 1st, 2026 (Reference No. 1-1117).

Your Profile

We seek an individual capable of navigating AI-based image generation, providing guidance in camera photography, and demonstrating sensitivity in artistic practice. Requirements include teaching in German and English, at least two years of professional experience in post-photographic image generation, and teaching experience. Desirable qualities include expertise in narrative media, artistic research, writing, coding, and a critical reflection on the ethical and societal responsibilities of design and digital imagery. Candidates should be open to equality, diversity, and intercultural collaboration, comfortable in interdisciplinary settings, well-connected professionally, and dedicated to academic administration.

Your Domain

Responsibilities include independent teaching and research on foundations, techniques, and strategies of post-photographic and photographic image generation; image competence; visual effects; basics of visual culture; history and theory of photography; methodological, theoretical, and practical aspects of image generation in artistic and design contexts; teaching at Bachelor and Master levels primarily in Communication Design, and in some cases in Architecture and Design; advising students on theses and internships; managing and developing the image laboratory/studio; and active involvement in departmental evolution and international relations.

Other Responsibilities

Artistic and/or applied research, including funding and publications; collaborations with departments such as Computer Science, Architecture, and Humanities; contributing to continuing education; writing grant proposals; acquiring external funding; fulfilling leadership roles cooperatively; and teaching in accordance with the HTWG Teaching Mission Statement (Leitbild Lehre).

Employment Requirements

Based on § 47 of Baden-Württemberg’s State University Act (LHG): a degree in arts and design (Master’s Degree or equivalent); exceptional artistic aptitude in photography, media arts, and/or image generation; a portfolio of post-photographic and photographic work with a statement on methodology; at least five years of professional experience, including three years non-academic; and proficiency in English and German (with a defined period for non-German speakers to achieve proficiency).
