General Description:
The Automotive Technology Program Coordinator, under the supervision of the Dean of Engineering and Trades and the authority of the Vice President for Instruction, is responsible for developing, implementing, instructing, coordinating, and evaluating the Automotive Technology Program that will result in students achieving academic success.
Examples Of Essential Duties:
Duties and responsibilities of the position:
- Deliver effective instruction that uses a variety of instructional techniques to assist students in developing Automotive Technician skills.
- Develop and update curriculum and instructional materials to include textbooks, instructional materials, equipment and supplies while maintaining inventory and submitting requisitions for the ordering of supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for obtaining and maintaining Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation Accreditation.
- Assist in recruiting activities and cultivate relationships with appropriate local industry representatives to ensure program success.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible files and records, daily attendance, and other paperwork and reports as requested and in a timely manner.
- Attend state and regional training for implementation at local level when necessary.
- Maintains updated Instructor Course Requirements (ICR) and other course documents that reflect expected student learning outcomes.
- Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
- Maintain shop and lab safety within current regulations while leaving classrooms suitable for the next class.
- Ability to teach a flexible schedule.
- Accept other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the institution, with reference to the mission and the open-door policy. The ability to problem solve and work directly with a diverse population of learners. Effective written and public speaking skills are required. Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in education/training environments and be accountable for assignments. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and work effectively with people from all socio-economic and education levels and ethnic groups.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Minimum five years' work in Automotive related field such as dealership technician or community/technical college instructor required. An associate’s degree in Automotive Systems Technology or related field from a regionally accredited university or college preferred. ASE Master Certification with L4 required or ability to obtain these certifications within a year. Current NC Driver’s license required.
