Technical College Faculty - Machine Tool Technology Instructor (Temporary, Part-time)
Job Description
Minneapolis College is seeking a temporary, part-time instructor in our Machine Tool Technology (MTTC) Department within the School of Trade Technologies. This is an opportunity for a teaching position during Spring Semester of the 2025 - 2026 academic year that may be renewed for the 2026 Fall Semester at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Trade Technologies.
Dates of employment: Spring Semester 2026 (January 12 - May 15, 2026). If renewed: Fall Semester 2026 (August 24 - December 12, 2026).
Available courses in Spring 2026 Semester (17 credits total):
- MTTC 1500-01 Advanced Lathe and Introduction to CNC (4 credits)
- MTTC 1505-01 Advanced Mill and Introduction to CNC (5 credits)
- MTTC 1515-01 Applied Shop Math 2 (2 credits)
- MTTC 2100-01 CNC Machine Setup and Operation (6 credits)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide quality teaching in assigned field of study to a very diverse student population in both lecture and laboratory settings;
- Develop and revise instructional materials for both lecture and laboratory courses;
- Assess student outcomes at the course, department, and college levels;
- Establish, cultivate, and maintain collegial and cooperative work relationships with instructors in the Machine Tool Technology Department, the Department’s administrators, academic advisors, and support staff, and all College personnel;
- Participate actively in the college community through MTTC Department and School of Trade Technologies meetings and College-wide committee work;
- Utilize campus technology to stay current in the welding and metal fabrication profession and connect to faculty, staff, and students; and
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities and professional association memberships.
Our Machine Tool Technology (CNC Machinist) Program:
Minneapolis College’s Machine Tool Technology (CNC Machinist) Program teaches students the technical and problem-solving skills needed to work in the metals manufacturing and processing industries. Students practice the art of traditional machining while learning the applications of computers, including computer-integrated machining, computer aided design and manufacturing, and computer programming. The Program trains students in important safety and measurement techniques. It teaches them how to interpret detailed blueprints and perform key mathematical calculations. Students obtain hands-on experience by performing turning, milling, drilling, and grinding concepts.
Students can earn the following academic awards:
- CNC Machinist Associate of Applied Science Degree (60 credits)
- CNC Machinist Diploma (45 credits)
Salary Range: $43,067 - $71,893 annually. Salary schedule placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the 2023 - 2025 Master Agreement between the Minnesota State Board of Trustees and the Minnesota State College Faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Minnesota State credential field of Machine Tool Technology/Machinist:
Education Requirement: Two year diploma in machine tool technology/machinist.
Occupational Experience Requirement: Four full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in machine setup, programming, troubleshooting and operation of both manual and CNC equipment.
Recency Requirement: One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Teaching experience in a community college or technical school setting
- Occupational experience in machine setup, programming, troubleshooting and operation of both manual and CNC equipment
- Demonstrated computer skills with educational learning systems and Microsoft Office software
- Experience developing and using student-centered, active, and experiential learning strategies
- Experience incorporating technology into curriculum delivery
- Experience assessing student academic achievement
Other Requirement: Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.
