Full time faculty teach a base of 30 credits per academic year. While instructional responsibilities are primary, full time faculty will participate in program planning, assessment and reporting, service to the department and the college, and continuous professional development.
Position responsibilities, knowledge and abilities:
- Strong discipline expertise and the ability to teach a variety of English courses, primarily including College Composition 1 College Composition 2, with occasional writing for specific purposes and literature courses.
- Courses are taught at a variety of times and/or delivery modes including days, evenings, fully in-person, online asynchronous, and blended/hybrid in-person/online formats.
- Design and teach courses in the English program using teaching methods that support the success of diverse students.
- Assess student learning and academic achievement at the course, department/program, and college levels.
- Participate regularly in department meetings and in department responsibilities such as course scheduling, program reviews, program assessment, curricula development, transfer relationships and external partnerships.
- Available and willing to be actively engaged in the college community and student success activities, such as supplemental advising for declared English Transfer Pathway students and promoting career exploration in related fields.
- Participate in service to the college and the greater community, such as college-wide committees and community and professional networks.
- Participate in achieving annual college, division, and departmental priorities.
- Continually develop expertise in the advances of teaching college writing and composition, and maintain currency in the discipline of English.
There are four openings for the Full Time English Instructor at Saint Paul College. Salary Range: Please note that the full salary range for a nine-month, academic year appointment is $43,067 - $94,542; initial salary placement for new Minnesota State College faculty is between $43,067 and $71,893, depending on academic credentials and years of creditable professional experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree with a major in English or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate or terminal degree in English, writing, composition and rhetoric, literature, or a closely related field.
- Three years of teaching experience at the community college level or five years teaching experience at the college level.
- Evidence of active and continuous professional development in postsecondary teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated understanding of the mission, values, challenges and student populations of community and technical colleges.

Telework (Yes/No): Online asynchronous courses may comprise part of the instructional assignment each term. All full time faculty members teach at least one course on campus, or the equivalent combination of Blended/Hybrid courses each semester.
