SUMMARY
York County Community College (YCCC), an institution with a proud 30-year history dedicated to transforming lives and communities throughout York County, Maine, is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our faculty as a full-time Welding Faculty member. Reporting to the Dean of Education, this position is critical to the development and launch of YCCC's new welding program.
The Welding Faculty member will play a crucial role in designing curriculum, setting up the welding lab, and engaging students through high-quality, hands-on training. This role ensures that the program meets industry standards and prepares students for success in today's workforce. The faculty member will collaborate closely with industry partners, fellow faculty, short-term training staff, and administration to continually enhance the learning experience and ensure strong outcomes for students.

The ideal candidate will be student-focused, highly skilled in welding practices, and experienced in curriculum development and program setup. They must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population. Faculty at YCCC are expected to implement effective learning strategies, deliver engaging instruction, assess student learning outcomes, and provide mentorship and advising to support student success. New faculty transitioning from industry to education will receive support to ease their transition into the classroom.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Development:
- Design and develop innovative curriculum that aligns with current industry practices and standards, including navy welding certification.
- Collaborate with faculty and industry professionals to ensure curriculum relevance and rigor.
Welding Lab Setup & Continuing Lab Maintenance:
- Oversee the acquisition and installation of welding equipment and tools necessary for effective instruction.
- Ensure the lab environment meets safety standards and provides adequate resources for student learning.
Instructional Responsibilities (transition to teaching full-time instruction in welding in early 2026):
- Deliver lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training sessions to students.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance skill development.
- Schedule may include a combination of day, evening, and weekend classes.
- In-person instruction with some online elements.
Student Engagement:
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Provide academic advising and career guidance to students pursuing a welding career.
Professional Development:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with welding technologies and instructional strategies.
- Engage in industry networking to promote the welding program and develop partnerships.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist in the development and assessment of program goals and outcomes.
- Participate in college meetings and contribute to program evaluations.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience related to teaching at a technical education or trade center or teaching adults will be considered.
- Knowledge of navy welding certification processes and standards is highly beneficial.
- Extensive experience in welding techniques and practices, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary educational setting is preferred.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Expertise in welding techniques including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxy-fuel welding/cutting, and plasma cutting.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and certifications, such as AWS (American Welding Society) codes and guidelines.
- Experience setting up and maintaining welding labs and equipment, ensuring safe and effective training environments.
- Familiarity with curriculum development aligned with industry needs and educational standards.
- Commitment to safe working practices and ability to teach safety protocols to students in a shop environment.
- Ability to build industry partnerships to support internships, apprenticeships, and job placements for students.
- Experience integrating emerging technologies and techniques into instruction, such as robotic welding or advanced fabrication methods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and industry partners to develop and enhance academic programs.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of respect, positivity, and collaboration as outlined in YCCC's Culture Guidebook.
- Ability to adapt instructional methods to support various learning styles and educational backgrounds.
- Organizational skills for managing lab operations, equipment inventory, and student assessments.
- Experience using learning management systems (LMS) for course material delivery, grading, and communication (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas).
- Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement in both technical skills and teaching practices.
- Understanding of non-traditional, adult, and second-chance learners, with a passion for supporting students' educational and career goals, and accommodate day, and/or evening students.
- Ability to support credit and non-credit program needs, working with short-term training initiatives as required.
