About the Bard Early Colleges
Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Colleges help high school students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma.
The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic supports. Now in its third decade, the Bard Early College network of campuses serves over 3,300 students in campuses in Lower Manhattan, the Bronx, and in Queens, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, DC. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 5500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.
Position Description
Bard High School Early College Baltimore (BHSEC Baltimore), a partnership between Bard College and the Baltimore City Public Schools in Baltimore (BCPS), invites applications for full-time faculty positions in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Earth Science and/or Environmental Science. Candidates will teach courses in their fields of specialization, as well as interdisciplinary courses in the Sciences.
Position Duties
We seek educators passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation. The successful applicant must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service. A graduate degree in the field and college teaching experience is required; high school teaching experience, and/or experience working with high school-age students is desirable.
Start Date: August 2025
Compensation: $60,662-$118,411 (compensation commensurate with experience and based on school district pay scale)
Location: Baltimore, MD
- M.A. or M.S. in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Environmental Science, or related field (Masters Degree required; Ph.D. preferred)
- Experience teaching at both high school and college levels (desired)
- The ideal candidate will understand cultural differences and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education. They will be committed to reducing and possess an openness to learning about potential barriers to inclusion.
