Basic Functions

FIRST DATE OF REVIEW IS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 10, 2026 FAIR LABOR STANDARS ACT (FLSA) POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT 10-MONTH TENURE TRACK POSITION COMPENSATION: Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425. EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - Comprehensive benefit package which includes:

Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Teach a full load of classes in welding to prepare students to become certified welders with special emphasis on safety practices and quality. Develop and teach the full range of classes from basics to certification including but not limited to: oxy-fuel gas welding and cutting, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, layout and fabrication, blueprint reading, and the arc cutting methods of air carbon arc and plasma. Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, course revision, instructional material development, departmental planning, budget development, and manage the learning facilities/equipment. Serve on division and college-wide committees. Advise students on career and academic matters. Implement college policies and procedures and adhere to state, federal, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations. Engage in professional development activities. Serve as liaison with the local/regional business and industry community. Serve as a resource for economic development and workforce development initiatives within our community. Maintain student records, required office hours, and submit required documents, in accordance with published deadlines. Participate in outreach and articulation activities to local agencies and other educational institutions. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of our students. Demonstrate creativity and innovation in meeting the learning needs of our students. Maintain technical and professional competency in the field. Maintain a clean, well-organized welding shop. Recruit students to welding program. Stay current with state of the art welding technology, processes and equipment. Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience in Welding or related field OR the equivalent. Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current welding certification. Working knowledge of codes and inspection within AWS, ASME and API. Working knowledge of non-destructive and destructive testing. Working knowledge of common welding processes, weld inspection and testing, metallurgy, quality equipment and trouble shooting. Industrial experience as Welding Technician Possession of current AWS Certified Welding Inspector License We will be using the guidelines set by the Academic Affairs Division of the Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of developing course syllabi
  • Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning
  • Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies
  • Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.
Ability to:
  • Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain current in one's discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.
  • Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom
  • Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms
  • Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
