Full-time, Tenure Track Marine Transportation Faculty
General Responsibilities
The Marine Transportation Department is seeking professional candidates for a full-time, tenure track professional maritime faculty member. We are interested in experienced mariners who will be able to teach in a variety of basic and advanced professional maritime subjects including Basic Safety Training, Radar, ARPA, ECDIS, Ship Construction, GMDSS, Tanker Operations, Mate of Towing and Small Vessel Operations, Seamanship, Terrestrial and Celestial Navigation, Dynamic Positioning, Shiphandling and Bridge Resource Management.
- Ability to teach an academic course load of 12 credits per semester.
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, and an understanding of the Academy's unique mission.
- Provide support to students through academic advising of assigned students and hold a minimum of three (3) office/instruction hours each week.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation or appropriate related field.
- Hold a USCG Second Mate's Oceans Unlimited Tonnage Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) or USCG Master 1600 GRT MMC with command time. Also have current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
- Have three years of full-time experience in teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning, OR have five years of service in a professional maritime field (or a combination thereof).
