King’s College London is offering funded studentships in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) to study a PhD in one of our departments: Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics. PhD studentships are offered in the fields of Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics: Disordered Systems/Financial Mathematics/Probability, Applied Mathematics: Theoretical Physics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics.

The NMES Graduate School is home to the Faculty’s PhD students. It delivers a training and events programme for all our PhD students.

Funded Studentships

Several different types of funded studentships are available across the Faculty, including Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Studentships (code EPSRC 2026-27), available in all departments, and Science and Technology Facilities Research Council (STFC) Studentships (code STFC 2026-27), available in Mathematics and Physics. Funded for 3.5 or 4 years, with stipend bursary of £22,780 per annum (including London Allowance, rising annually). Limited international fee waivers available. Other funding from industry, Centres of Doctoral Training, supervisors or NMES Research Centres.

Self-Funded Studentships

Self-funded students welcomed with Research and Training Support Grant (RTSG).

Entry Requirements

Refer to chosen PhD programme. All PhD students expected to contribute to department teaching (with training and payment).
