General Mechanic (Nights and Weekends) - Campus Maintenance
Position Summary
Reads, understands and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers' operating and/or maintenance specifications as related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes. Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance including operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings. May be called upon to assist other maintenance personnel in completion of work tasks including but not limited to electricians, HVAC mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, masons, painters, sheet metal workers, etc. Responds to emergency as well as routine requests for service from building occupants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reads, understands and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturer's operating and/or maintenance specifications as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes.
- Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance to include operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings.
- Assists other maintenance personnel in the completion of their work to include Electricians, HVAC Mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, Painters, Sheet Metal Workers, etc.
- Responds to requests for service from building occupants to include emergencies, hot and cold calls, lighting problems, plumbing problems, minor installations, repairs, adjustments, etc.
- Troubleshoots and repair electrical systems, including lighting, outlets, switches, motors, and basic control components.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of fire alarms and generators, which is preferred.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Must meet University underwriting guidelines to operate a University vehicle, including: Valid U.S. driver's license, At least 21 years of age, Minimum of three years of driving experience, Maintain an Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proven ability to perform General Mechanic job duties
- Ability to work nights & weekends, including on call
- Basic knowledge of fire alarms and generators
- Attention to detail
- Troubleshooting and problem solving
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, management, and staff
- Ability to follow and complete work orders and preventative maintenance duties, and provide updates on the work order status
- Ability to work alone efficiently, productively, and with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain a clean work site and area, that minimally interferes with University's operations
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to safely perform the physical duties of the position, with or without mechanical assistance, including: Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet, Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus, Working in confined spaces, Working within extreme temperature ranges.
Hourly Pay Range:
Pay Range: $17.00 - $24.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications).
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 4:00pm - 7:00am, with required weekend work. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. (Subject to change to meet the needs of the University and department).
