About The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care
The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care is comprised of faculty in broad specialties (anesthesiology, transplant surgery, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and urology) with a focus on delivering outstanding care to the community.
The Department's mission is: Transforming the health and lives of the diverse communities we serve through innovation in surgical care, research, and education.
To accomplish this our priorities are:
- To develop new models of person-centered, multidisciplinary care that reward value.
- To educate and train future health care leaders.
- To develop research programs to evaluate new care delivery paradigms.
Our departmental Cultural Norms is a value system that highlights attributes we aspire to and use as a framework to guide us each day. One of those is that we acknowledge that we seek work/life balance and acknowledge that we are more than our work.
About The Genitourinary Reconstruction Urologist (GURS) Position
The faculty member will be an integral part of the rapidly expanding urology practice at UT Health Austin, a part of UT Medicine, the clinical practice of Dell Medical School. The current urologic service is composed of two specialists in minimally invasive surgery / endourology, two urologist oncologists and one Male Sexual Health urologist.
The individual should have interest in developing an ambitious specialty-focused urology practice in which un-insured, under-insured patients, and fully insured patients all receive care in the same clinic. We see referrals from other urologists locally and regionally. Additionally, the applicant should have an interest in multidisciplinary complex pelvic reconstruction, as our primary inpatient facility is home to plastic surgeons, colorectal surgeons and gynecologists who collaborate with urologists in care of patients with challenging reconstruction needs. Outpatient surgery is performed in the UT Heath Austin Ambulatory Surgery Center, a new state-of-the art facility.
With regards to research, opportunities abound for collaborative research with faculty at The University of Texas at Austin. With regards to teaching, medical students are frequently assigned to our service, and we host a urologic resident from the military program in San Antonio year-round.
