Global longitudinal comparisons on cognitive function using data from the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP)
About the Project
One prominent global trend is the gradual and irreversible shift towards an older population, with adults aged 65 and older expected to double in the next three decades (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2023). Compared to other nations globally, some projected that an exponential growth of 56.1% of those aged between 75-84 years, and 16.6% for those aged 65-74 years from 2019 to 2050 in EU countries (Ageing Europe - Statistics on Population Developments, 2024; United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2023). Whereas in Asia, the projection is that one in four will be over the age of 60 by 2050 (Asian Development Bank, 2022). Given that this age group accounts for most health and social care spending, an increasing grey population may result in greater strain on services and resources sustainability if not accompanied by healthy ageing. Data available in ageing databases are available for modelling and projection on how we can best support healthy ageing practices at an individual and macro levels.
This PhD project will expand on existing research focusing on the older adult population. As this is a project involving secondary data, applicants must have a strong background in advanced statistics and statistical modelling.
