Description

The primary function of the Graduate Assistant for Intramurals is to help facilitate and supervise the operation of Intramurals and help with tasks through the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

They will help plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive intramural program designed to enhance the quality of life for our students, faculty, and staff at UCM. The assistant should gain experience in advising our student advisory board, programming, campus policies, and working with faculty and staff as well as students.

1. Assist with the development of fitness wellness programs.
2. Teach and assist in the instruction of intramural sports.
3. Assist with opening and closing of facility.
4. Develop assessment tools to be used within the scope of work to validate instruction provided at the center.
5. Assist with special groups and organizations that utilize the facility.
6. Assist with Orientation/Week of Welcome activities.

Examples of Duties

• This individual will provide training for officials and field supervisor
• They will be responsible for supervising the Student Recreation & Wellness Center at a minimum of 3 shifts per week.
• They will create and implement special events such as The Family Weekend Color Run.
• They will assist with other special events such as Homecoming, end of semester activities, and pop-up events in the Rec Center.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in recreation, sports administration, physical education, or experience in working as an official or sports and recreational activities required
• Currently admitted to a UCM graduate degree program
• 3.0 or higher graduate level GPA if previous graduate level courses have been taken
• 2.7 or higher undergraduate level GPA if no previous graduate level courses have been taken

Experience:

• Not required but helpful: officiating experience in our core sports of basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Experience in planning events. Knowledge of how to set up tournament and game schedules.

Total Stipend for Semester: $4,950

Working Days & Hours: Monday - Sunday varies no more than 20 hours per week

Scholarship: Students filling a Graduate Assistantship (GA) position are eligible to receive a graduate tuition waiver, a graduate non-resident tuition waiver (if applicable), and a graduate mandatory fees waiver. The scholarships are in the form of a waiver and the funds are not deposited into the student's personal account. Instead, the student's bill is reduced by the amount of the scholarship awarded. If the maximum amount of the scholarship is not used, the remainder is not paid to the student in any form and unused scholarship money cannot be carried over to another semester. The scholarship is applied to graduate level courses only; courses taken for undergraduate credit are not eligible to be covered by the GA scholarship. The non-resident fee scholarship only applies to classes taken on the UCM Warrensburg campus. The maximum scholarship amounts are based on the size of assistantship held. For a full (20-hour per week) assistantship, the scholarship covers tuition costs and mandatory fees up to 12 credit hours of graduate coursework per semester. Graduate assistantship positions less than full will be prorated accordingly.

• Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.
• Temporary, adjunct, student employment, or graduate assistant positions: Benefits are not included.
