Graduate Teaching Assistant (Student)
Summary
The Teaching Assistant (TA) supports the instructional mission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics by assisting faculty in the delivery of undergraduate or graduate courses. TAs play a vital role in fostering student learning and engagement through instructional support, grading, tutoring, office hours, in-class assistance, material preparation, and other tasks, depending on the particular course needs.
Essential Functions
- Assist in preparing and delivering instructional materials as directed by the course instructor.
- Lead discussions, tutorials, and review sessions, assist during practical work or lab sessions, etc., as assigned.
- Hold regular office hours to provide students with additional help and clarification on course material.
- Assist in grading of assignments, quizzes, exams, and other coursework in a fair and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance as requested.
- Assist with test administration and proctoring.
- Provide feedback to the instructor regarding student progress or difficulties.
- Participate in TA training and meetings when required.
- Adhere to academic integrity policies and uphold the department’s standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Part-time.
- 3 hours per week.
Salary Range
$19.50 per hour.
Required Education and Experience
- Enrollment in a graduate program at AU (preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science).
- Strong academic performance and knowledge in relevant subject areas.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Completion of the same or equivalent course and at least one subsequent course in the same subject is expected.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.

- Duties are performed on campus, remotely, or in a hybrid mode, depending on the course needs and the instructor’s requirements.
