The Opportunity:
As the Extension Coordinator, you will provide overall leadership and management of the Master Gardener and Small Farms programs in Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. Your primary focus will be supporting the Master Gardener program, which empowers volunteers to educate the public and respond to home gardening questions. You will recruit, train, lead, coordinate, and support more than 75 WSU trained volunteers who serve a growing population through over 20 community locations and special events across both counties. You will establish and maintain a network of empowered, well led teams to effectively deliver program goals and outcomes.
You will work collaboratively with the Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties Master Gardener Foundation to ensure a healthy, sustainable, and well funded program operation. In addition, you will assist with managing, promoting, and evaluating the Small Farms program and other Natural Resource Extension programs throughout Grays Harbor County. You will work closely with regional faculty and staff to develop strategies that increase participation, reach, and effectiveness of small farms and natural resource Extension programs.
As part of this role, you will prepare briefings and written reports for the University, the Foundation, elected officials, and other funders, clearly communicating program outcomes, impacts, and successes.
Additional Information:
This is a part time (50% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end December 31, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Monthly Salary: $1,950.44 - $2,806.74 (at 50% FTE) | $3,900.88 - $5,613.47 (at 100% FTE) | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Knowledge of botany, agriculture, gardening, marketing, food systems, forestry and resource management concepts and issues.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with people of varying education, experience, and responsibility both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing volunteer programs.
- Experience in grant writing and other funding models for securing programmatic financial support.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of office productivity software to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours that includes evenings, weekends, and travel overnight.
- All new Extension employees working with youth and vulnerable adults must be screened through a background check.
- Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
- Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with developing communications materials such as newsletters, social media marketing and advertisement.
- Experience with coordinating events and educational training programs.
- Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures in the areas of personnel, finance, and administration.
- Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.
