Group Leader in Cancer Biology

Location: Old Road Campus Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ

Salary: Research Grade 9: £56,623 - £65,336 with a discretionary range to £73,296 p.a. This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year.

We are seeking to appoint two Group Leaders in Cancer Biology to join the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Oxford.

The Ludwig Institute is an international organisation that supports 3 core-funded branches (Oxford, Princeton and Lausanne) as well as individual investigators throughout the world. Its aim is to advance our basic knowledge of cancer and apply this towards improvement in cancer care. The Oxford branch has particular expertise in epigenetics and the development of novel technologies to study this problem. We are especially interested in growing our expertise in epitranscriptomics, RNA biology, single-cell/spatial approaches, microenvironment, and structural epigenetics, although we are open to other areas. We encourage cross-disciplinary science which brings together different approaches, including close collaboration between basic scientists and clinical colleagues in the nearby cancer hospital.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record of productivity demonstrated by their publication record and collaborative relationships. You should have an emerging international reputation in your field.

As a Group Leader at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at Oxford, you will develop an effective, productive research group, supervise postgraduate researchers and graduate students, attract external funding and form productive collaborations. You will benefit from a core funded budget to establish a small research group, mentorship from senior group leaders within the Ludwig Institute and the wider Oxford community.

It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with significant postgraduate research experience and an established international reputation with first author publication record. You will have a future research plan that is complimentary to the Ludwig Institute’s research themes and aims, with demonstrable specialist knowledge in cancer, genetics, epigenetics and cancer cell biology.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 5 years and is funded by Ludwig.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday, 18 May 2025 will be considered. Please quote 186066 on all correspondence.
