About the Role:

Australian Catholic University (ACU) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for multiple Casual Gym Instructors, commencing early 2026, for the ACU Active North Sydney gymnasium to support our members and play a key role in the team. Applications are welcome from candidates with a Bachelor Degree in Exercise/ Sport Science or those progressing towards their qualification. Gym Instructors will provide exercise advice, physical assessments, instruction on safe equipment operation and supervise the gym area underpinned by a high level of customer service and engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Provide core services to members including screenings, physical assessments and designing individual and group fitness programs in accordance with ACU Active policies and procedures.
• Manage proactive, diligent supervision of the gym floor and assist with operational needs such as welcoming new members, providing training advice, technique correction, cleaning of equipment, adhering to state OH&S and WHS regulations and generating feedback.
• Assist the facility supervisor to review, evaluate and develop the effectiveness of health and fitness services, programs and promotional activities.
• Provide social media content to engage, motivate and educate existing ACU Active members and non-members.
• Deliver high level of customer service and communication to existing and prospective members including the provision feedback, motivation and maintaining a happy, encouraging environment.
• Promote the benefits of membership and engagement in sport, health and wellbeing programs at ACU.
• Encourage a positive image of ACU Active through professional standards of workplace and personal presentation and efficient, effective completion of work tasks, lessons and programs.

You will need to have:

• Completion of or progress towards a Bachelor Degree in Exercise or Sport Science.
• Sound knowledge and technical skills in prescribing and supervising one on one and group exercise sessions.
• Well developed communication skills including ability to professionally liaise with peers, colleagues and clients at all levels.
• Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
• A demonstrated commitment to providing excellent levels of engagement and customer service.
• A flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to varying tasks and priorities.
