Head and Neck Oncologic Surgeon, Assistant/Associate Professor, Surgery, Otolaryngology

The Division of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Head and Neck Oncologic Surgeon faculty position.

This is a clinical-track or tenure-track academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will join a growing academic division with strong institutional support and significant opportunity for clinical and programmatic development in head and neck oncology.

The position offers a comprehensive academic practice focused on head and neck oncologic surgery, including ablative surgery and microvascular free flap reconstruction within a collaborative, team-based model. The faculty member will participate in a high-acuity multidisciplinary practice and contribute to the ongoing growth of the head and neck oncology service.

Clinical responsibilities include the surgical and nonsurgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the head and neck, participation in complex oncologic resections, and shared responsibility for microvascular reconstruction, inpatient care, postoperative management, and cross-coverage. The surgeon will actively participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, anesthesia, and critical care teams.

The faculty member will maintain a robust outpatient clinical practice and participate in an attending-level call schedule appropriate for an academic head and neck oncology service.

Education is a core component of this position. The successful candidate will play an active role in resident and medical student education, including operative teaching, clinic supervision, inpatient teaching, and participation in departmental and divisional conferences. A fully staffed head and neck oncology service is foundational to the residency program, and this position will serve as a key educational and mentorship resource for trainees.

Scholarly activity is encouraged and supported, with opportunities to engage in clinical research, outcomes research, quality improvement initiatives, and educational scholarship. Faculty are encouraged to publish and present at regional, national, and international meetings, including those sponsored by the American Head and Neck Society.

The position follows all Stony Brook University GME and faculty policies, including institutional guidelines related to professionalism, wellness, and faculty development.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery residency
  • Fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery
  • Board certified or board eligible in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery
  • Eligibility for New York State medical licensure
  • Eligibility for academic appointment at Stony Brook University
  • Commitment to high-quality patient care, resident education, and collaborative team-based practice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with or interest in robotic and minimally invasive approaches to head and neck oncologic surgery
  • Demonstrated or emerging record of scholarly activity, including publications, grants, and national presentations
  • Career goals aligned with the development of a comprehensive academic head and neck oncology practice
