Job Description
The Head Coach of Women's Basketball reports to the Athletics Director (or delegate) and is responsible for the administration of all phases of the women's basketball program in accordance with NCAA Division I rules and philosophies.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
- Work with the Women's Basketball team through practice, instruction, conditioning, and game competition to ensure the most successful program possible
- Lead assigned student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players' health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation
- Motivate and inspire student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the court
- Attend functions related to the basketball program
- Prepare reports; evaluate players
- Recruit qualified student-athletes for the program and Stetson University
- Establish goals and directions for the operation of the program and develop a successful program athletically and academically
- Responsible for the academic achievement, retention, and graduation of each student-athlete on the roster
- Supervise full and/or part-time assistant coaches including hiring, disciplining, or separation decisions and taking full responsibility for training, mentoring, and evaluating assistant coach(es)
- Supervise all scheduling and traveling arrangements for the program
- Assist in the marketing and fundraising efforts of the program, the athletic department, and the University
- Cultivate and solicit alumni and donors to financially support women's basketball
- Manage and adhere to a budget to be determined by the Director of Athletics or Athletics CFO
- Manage a cost-effective and administratively efficient sport program
- In cooperation with the Associate AD for Compliance, and Associate AD for Academics, uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress, and eligibility
- Comply with all NCAA, A-SUN, Stetson University, and Athletic Department rules, regulations and policies
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Computer skills
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, admissions, and financial aid officers, fellow employees, program boosters, and the public
- Support the University's Mission and Values in their role
Required Qualifications: This position requires:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities of leading and supervising a women's basketball program; including but not limited to implementation of running and workout programs, budget management, professional development, NCAA rules and regulations, organization skills and supporting the educational goals and ideals of the members of the women's basketball program
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University's auto insurance carrier.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Master's Degree and previous college coaching and recruiting experience
- Ability to lead with integrity and positively influence the lives and athletic careers of the student-athletes on the Women's Basketball team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Superb organization skills to effectively manage and lead women's basketball program
Work Environment: Duties require: both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
