The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the operation and management of the volleyball program, including recruitment, training, coaching, and fundraising. They will also assist the athletic department in scheduling, retention of student-athletes, and academic oversight.
The Head Coach will provide leadership that promotes competitive success, academic achievement, integrity, sportsmanship, and student development while maintaining compliance with NJCAA, MCCAA, and institutional regulations.
Examples of Duties
- Organize, direct, and administer all aspects of the volleyball program.
- Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in accordance with Mid Michigan College, NJCAA, and MCCAA guidelines.
- Plan and conduct practices, conditioning sessions, competitions, and team activities.
- Develop and implement match strategies and player development plans.
- Foster a culture of academic success, accountability, leadership, and sportsmanship.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress, retention, and eligibility.
- Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
- Assist in the coordination of team travel, scheduling, equipment, uniforms, and facility needs.
- Help manage and maintain program budgets with fiscal responsibility and integrity.
- Lead fundraising and community engagement initiatives that support the volleyball program and athletic department.
- Maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, officials, and community members.
- Ensure compliance with all NJCAA, MCCAA, and Mid Michigan College policies and procedures.
- Complete required administrative duties including eligibility paperwork, travel documentation, roster management, and reporting requirements.
- Serve as a Mandated Reporter and complete all required Clery Act training and reporting responsibilities.
- Required to become certified as a Campus Security Authority; as such, adherence to all required reporting.
- Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent coaching experience required.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required (or ability to receive certification).
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record required.
Experience:
- Previous volleyball coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, recruiting, player development, and program management.
- Experience supervising assistant coaches or staff.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Collegiate coaching and/or recruiting experience preferred.
- Running effective practices and managing player development preferred.
- Evaluating talent and recruiting highly skilled players preferred.
- Fundraising experience preferred.
