Job Summary
Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of athletic training and sports medicine services for an NCAA Division 1 FBS football program. Supervises assigned staff and/or student assistants in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Manages the overall medical care for student-athletes. Provides medical coverage for athletic events.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries, as well as assist in the day-to-day operation of football athletic training program
- Provides oversight of two additional athletic trainers, also assigned to football
- Provides clinical evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses under the general supervision of the designated team physician and in accordance with standards of the NATABOC and state regulatory board
- Possesses, maintains, and complies with appropriate certifications and licensures including NATABOC and State of Georgia Athletic Training Licensure, First Aid, CPR and AED training
- Records and maintains medical information complying with HIPPA, FERPA and other regulatory requirements
- Acts in accordance with physician supervision and prescribed treatment plans
- Works with staff, inclusive of sport performance staff, to ensure all treatments, rehabilitation activities, and strain levels are monitored
- Schedules diagnostic testing for student-athletes as indicated and ordered by managing physician
- Maintains open lines of communication with team physicians and medical providers regarding diagnostic testing
- Coordinates and manages physician coverage for football practices and games, including road games
- Coordinates physical exams for incoming football student-athletes
- Coordinates physician referrals as part of the injury management process
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date written treatment and injury records in accordance with established medical documentation standards
- Provides regular communication with coaching staff regarding injury and participation status of football student-athletes
- Maintains communication and a cooperative relationship with coaches, administrators, parents (with appropriate permissions on-file), and student-athletes
- Assists in administration of the athletic training student program
- Appropriately utilizes injury management software
- Complies with all NCAA, division, conference, Kennesaw State University and other governing rules, regulations, and policies intercollegiate sports programs
- Provides annual emergency management and emergency action response training sessions for team physicians, athletic training staff, and students
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Athletic Training or related field.
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
NATABOC Certification
State of Georgia Athletic Training Licensure
First Aid/CPR/AED certification
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience in athletic training or sports medicine including previous supervisory experience in an intercollegiate sports medicine or athletic training program at the NCAA Division 1 FBS level.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Experience with NCAA Division I FBS football

ABILITIES
Maintains current certification and credentials consistent with NATABOC and state regulatory agency requirements
Able to work in partnership with staff, faculty, administrators, and student leaders
Able to maintain required certifications NATA certification State of Georgia Athletic Training Licensure. First aid and CPR/AED
Able to work closely with sport coaching staffs and Sports Performance Staff
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Appropriate understanding of NCAA rules and compliance standards
Comprehensive knowledge of standards and best practices in sports medicine for intercollegiate athletics competition
Familiarity with current tools, products, and modalities in sports medicine field
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, injury management software)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette

This is a supervisory position.

This role is considered a position of trust.

This position may travel 25% - 49% of the time
