The Head Women’s Golf Coach provides leadership, direction, and
oversight for all aspects of the Norfolk State University NCAA
Division I Women’s Golf program.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics or designated Senior Associate Athletics Director, the Head Coach is responsible for the overall administration, competitive success, academic achievement, recruiting, student-athlete development, fiscal management, and daily operations of the women’s golf program.
The Head Coach is expected to establish and maintain a competitive, academically focused, inclusive, and student-centered program consistent with the mission, values, and standards of Norfolk State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coaching & Competitive Leadership
- Serve as Head Coach and provide overall leadership and direction for the Norfolk State University Women’s Golf program.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting strategy designed to attract talented student-athletes who meet Norfolk State University’s academic and athletic standards.
- Identify, evaluate, recruit, and retain prospective student-athletes capable of competing successfully at the NCAA Division I level.
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective student-athletes, families, high school and junior golf coaches, club professionals, recruiting organizations, and other appropriate contacts.
- Coordinate recruiting communications, campus visits, evaluations, documentation, and other permissible recruiting activities.
- Collaborate with Athletics Compliance, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other campus offices throughout the recruiting process.
- Maintain an appropriate roster consistent with departmental, NCAA, MEAC, and institutional requirements.
- Monitor roster development and student-athlete retention.
- Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and regulations.
- Support the academic, athletic, personal, leadership, and professional development of women’s golf student-athletes.
- Maintain regular communication with student-athletes regarding academic progress, athletic development, team expectations, conduct, and overall well-being.
- Collaborate with Athletics Academic Support and other campus resources to promote academic achievement, retention, and graduation.
- Reinforce expectations related to class attendance, study responsibilities, academic integrity, and satisfactory academic progress.
- Encourage student-athlete participation in leadership development, community service, career preparation, and other departmental initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive team environment emphasizing respect, accountability, personal responsibility, and mutual support.
- Promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of student-athletes and refer student-athletes to appropriate university or Athletics resources when necessary.
- Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Women’s Golf program.
- Manage team scheduling, practices, competitions, tournament participation, travel, lodging, transportation, meals, equipment, apparel, and other program logistics.
- Develop the annual competition schedule in coordination with Athletics administration and applicable university offices.
- Coordinate practice and competition access with golf facilities and external course partners.
- Maintain accurate records related to schedules, rosters, recruiting, travel, equipment, expenditures, and other program activities.
- Complete required administrative documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
- Participate in departmental meetings, coaches’ meetings, compliance education sessions, professional development, and other required activities.
- Collaborate effectively with Athletics Business Operations, Compliance, Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Academic Support, Strategic Communications, Marketing, Development, Facilities, and other departmental units.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the Women’s Golf program budget in accordance with university and Athletics policies.
- Exercise appropriate fiscal responsibility and ensure program expenditures remain within approved budget allocations.
- Plan and manage expenses associated with travel, competition, recruiting, equipment, apparel, supplies, and other program needs.
- Submit required purchasing, travel, reimbursement, contractual, and financial documentation within established deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with Athletics Business Operations to monitor expenditures and resolve financial or administrative matters.
- Identify opportunities to operate efficiently while maintaining the competitive and developmental needs of the program.
- Ensure all program purchases and financial activities comply with university procurement and fiscal policies.
- Maintain full compliance with all applicable NCAA, MEAC, Norfolk State University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable NCAA and conference rules governing recruiting, eligibility, practice, competition, financial aid, benefits, student-athlete welfare, and other program activities.
- Complete required compliance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in required rules-education meetings and compliance training.
- Immediately report potential or actual rules violations through the appropriate institutional channels.
- Cooperate fully with Athletics Compliance staff regarding eligibility, recruiting, roster management, practice logs, competition, and other regulated activities.
- Promote a program culture in which compliance, integrity, and ethical conduct are core expectations.
- Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches and other assigned program personnel, as authorized.
- Establish clear expectations, duties, schedules, responsibilities, and performance standards for staff.
- Provide appropriate direction, mentorship, and professional development to assistant coaches and support personnel.
- Ensure all program staff understand and comply with NCAA, conference, university, and departmental policies.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and maintain effective communication regarding recruiting, student-athlete development, operations, scheduling, and program priorities.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately while retaining overall accountability for the performance and operation of the Women’s Golf program.
- Address staff performance, conduct, operational, or compliance concerns promptly and through the appropriate supervisory structure.
- Represent Norfolk State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics professionally in all internal and external interactions.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with alumni, donors, supporters, golf organizations, community partners, course operators, and other external constituents.
- Participate in Athletics fundraising, donor engagement, alumni, community service, and promotional initiatives when requested.
- Work collaboratively with Strategic Communications and Marketing to promote the Women’s Golf program and student-athletes.
- Support appropriate efforts related to attendance, brand visibility, sponsorship activation, fundraising, and program awareness.
- Participate in speaking engagements, community events, clinics, camps, university programs, and other outreach opportunities as assigned.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Norfolk State University Athletics.
The Head Women’s Golf Coach is accountable for the overall operation, performance, administration, conduct, and direction of the Women’s Golf program.
The Head Coach is responsible for maintaining appropriate standards related to competitive performance, academic achievement, recruiting, roster management, student-athlete welfare, fiscal management, staff supervision, compliance, travel, scheduling, equipment, facilities, and program operations.
The Head Coach must ensure required reports, documentation, financial records, recruiting records, compliance materials, and administrative responsibilities are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
The Head Coach is expected to identify potential program concerns early, communicate significant issues through the appropriate supervisory structure, and develop practical solutions when staffing, scheduling, financial, recruiting, academic, compliance, student-athlete, or operational challenges arise.
The position requires a high degree of independence, sound judgment, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.

Provides timely information regarding program activities, recruiting matters, student-athlete concerns, travel, scheduling, budgets, compliance matters, and operational needs.
Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding student-athletes, personnel, recruiting, academic, medical, financial, and other protected or sensitive information.

Effectively manages multiple responsibilities involving recruiting, coaching, travel, competition, student-athlete needs, administrative deadlines, compliance requirements, and program operations.

Demonstrates flexibility in responding to schedule changes, weather, travel disruptions, recruiting needs, student-athlete matters, competition changes, and other circumstances common to intercollegiate athletics.
DECISION-MAKING
Independently manages routine Women’s Golf program operations, including practices, training, competition preparation, recruiting activities, travel coordination, scheduling, equipment, roster management, staff assignments, and daily student-athlete matters.
Exercises sound professional judgment regarding student-athlete development, competitive strategy, recruiting, team conduct, program administration, resource utilization, and operational priorities.
Consults the appropriate Athletics administrator, Compliance office, Sports Medicine staff, Human Resources, Business Office, or other university official regarding matters requiring institutional approval or specialized guidance.
Seeks appropriate approval for significant personnel matters, major budgetary commitments, contracts, sensitive student-athlete concerns, NCAA or conference compliance issues, disciplinary matters, major scheduling decisions, reputational concerns, or matters outside established program authority.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of three to five years of successful collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
- Demonstrated experience recruiting and developing student-athletes.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple administrative and operational responsibilities.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic achievement and student-athlete development.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, campus partners, alumni, donors, and external constituents.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, practices, competitions, recruiting periods, and postseason events.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required for recruiting, competition, professional development, and other university or Athletics business.
- Master’s degree.
- Previous NCAA Division I coaching experience.
- Previous head coaching or significant collegiate program leadership experience.
- Demonstrated record of successful recruiting and student-athlete development.
- Demonstrated success in building or advancing a competitive collegiate golf program.
- Experience managing a collegiate athletics program budget.
- Experience supervising assistant coaches, student workers, volunteers, or other program personnel.
- Familiarity with NCAA Division I and MEAC regulations, policies, and operating standards.
- Experience coordinating collegiate golf travel, scheduling, recruiting, equipment, and tournament operations.
- Established relationships within collegiate, junior, high school, amateur, or professional golf communities.
- Experience participating in alumni engagement, fundraising, camps, clinics, community outreach, or revenue-generating initiatives.

Represents Norfolk State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics professionally in interactions with student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, families, alumni, donors, sponsors, media representatives, golf organizations, community groups, vendors, fans, and other external constituents.
Participates in appropriate community outreach, service initiatives, camps, clinics, alumni engagement, promotional events, fundraising activities, and other public-facing initiatives.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in office settings as well as indoor and outdoor athletic and golf facilities.
Duties require regular attendance at practices, competitions, recruiting events, tournaments, meetings, and university functions.
The position may require extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, driving, and traveling.
Duties may require walking extended distances on golf courses and working outdoors for prolonged periods in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
The position may require lifting, carrying, setting up, and transporting golf equipment, supplies, apparel, recruiting materials, and other program-related items.
Regular evening, weekend, holiday, and overnight travel is required for practices, competitions, recruiting, tournaments, conference activities, postseason competition, university events, and other program responsibilities.
Salary Range from-$50,000.00-$65,000.00
