Department of General Internal Medicine
Department of General Internal Medicine is a clinical, educational, and research department of Brno University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University. It provides inpatient and outpatient internal medicine care to the designated catchment area of the Brno metropolitan region. The range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures fully meets European standards, and in the field of geriatrics, the Department of General Internal Medicine is among the leading European institutions participating in the network of university geriatric centres. The level of care and clinical outcomes are fully comparable with those in advanced European countries. The department focuses on issues related to polypharmacy in older adults, particularly its adverse effects and interactions in relation to multimorbidity and age, including potential drug–drug interactions.
The candidate for the position of Head of Department must be a respected expert in the field of internal medicine, with experience in managing a team, conducting research in the field, and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Head of Department will be responsible for managing the department’s operations and finances, undergraduate education of students, postgraduate education, publication activities, and coordination of the department’s research activities. As part of the selection procedure, candidates for the position of Head of Department will be expected to present their vision for how they would fulfil these responsibilities.
Requirements for a declared position:
- University education in general medicine or equivalent education acquired abroad
- Eligibility to independently practise medicine in the relevant specialty pursuant to Section 5 of Act No. 95/2004 Coll.
- An academic degree of Ph.D. or the scientific degree CSc.
- Habilitation pursuant to the Higher Education Act, as amended; a professorial title is an advantage.
- Personal and professional qualifications for managing the department’s healthcare and academic team.
- Teaching experience and readiness to guarantee the professional subjects taught at the department.
- Scientific and publication activities in the relevant field.
- Active command of the Czech and English languages.
- Good moral character and civic integrity.
- Fulfilment of prerequisites according to Act No. 451/1991 Coll. (the Lustration Act); does not have to document persons born after 1 December 1971 and applicants from abroad.
