This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of the team at Britain’s longest established and world-famous conservatoire for filmmakers. The school, now approaching its 70th anniversary, is based in Covent Garden in the heart of London. LFS alumni include some legendary cinematographers (Roger Pratt, Tak Fujimoto) as well as celebrated directors (Mike Leigh), also actors (Danny Huston), and award winning editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis; as well as producers and executives across the industry.
LFS is one of only two film schools in the UK to have received ‘world leading’ institution status and funding from the Office for Students.
London Film School (LFS) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Sound to lead one of its core creative departments within a world-renowned postgraduate film school.
This is a senior role for an established sound practitioner and educator who wants to shape the future of screen sound education while remaining closely connected to industry practice.
As Head of Sound, you will lead the academic, creative, and operational direction of the Sound department. You will oversee teaching across our Masters programmes and specialist short courses, contribute directly to teaching and assessment, and play a key role in evolving a practice led, industry relevant curriculum.
You will build and maintain strong relationships with leading sound professionals in the UK and internationally, ensuring students are taught by current practitioners and exposed to emerging ideas, technologies, and workflows.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop high-quality teaching and supervision across postgraduate programmes
- Shape and refresh curriculum content in collaboration with academic and creative colleagues
- Recruit, support, and inspire industry-experienced tutors
- Maintain an active professional profile and contribute to research or creative practice
- Manage departmental staff, budgets, and resources
- Represent the department on academic committees and through an industry Advisory Board
- Support students through teaching, mentoring, and assessment
- Contribute to student recruitment and admissions activity
If you have substantial industry experience in sound, a commitment to developing emerging talent, and experience shaping creative practice, in addition to excellent communication skills, we would love to hear from you.
