The Director of the University Hospital Brno and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University announces a selection procedure for the position:

Head of the Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology is a therapeutic, educational and research facility of the Brno University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine of the Masaryk University. The clinic deals with comprehensive ophthalmological care for all age groups of children, focusing on diagnostic, microsurgical and conservative care in the field of congenital eye defects, infectious eye diseases, pediatric eye tumors, strabology, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular traumatology and reconstructive eye microsurgery. Within the scope of consiliary services, it ensures the continuous availability of specialized ophthalmological care for the entire Brno University Hospital, it also provides consiliary activities for the medical emergency service of the Brno agglomeration and for other medical facilities of the South Moravian Region and neighbouring regions.

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology carries out extensive lecturing, publishing, scientific research and teaching activities. It cooperates closely with other clinics and departments of the Children's Hospital in the interest of the paediatric patient. At the same time, it is a teaching facility for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The candidate for the Chair must be a respected expert in paediatric ophthalmology with experience in managing a work team and in scientific work in the field, and with experience in education at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Department Head position candidate must be a respected expert in paediatric ophthalmology with experience in managing a work team and in scientific work in the field, and with experience in education at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Head of the department will be responsible for the management of the clinic, undergraduate medical education, doctoral studies, publishing and coordination of research conducted at the clinic. The Candidate for Department Head will present his/her idea of fulfilling the above during the selection process.

Requirements for a declared position:

  • University education in general medicine or equivalent education acquired abroad;
  • Eligibility to pursue the profession of physician in the relevant field in accordance with Section 5 of Act No. 95/2004 Coll.;
  • Academic degree PhD or scientific rank of CSc;
  • Habilitation within the meaning of the Higher Education Act as amended, or the expectation of obtaining it in the near future (within 1–3 years);
  • Personal and professional requirements for managing the medical and academic team of the clinic;
  • Teaching experience and readiness to guarantee vocational subjects taught at the workplace;
  • Scientific and publishing activities in the given field;
  • Active knowledge of Czech language;
  • Moral integrity;
  • Fulfilment of prerequisites according to Act No. 451/1991 Coll. (the Lustration Act); (does not have to document persons born after 1 December 1971 and applicants from abroad).
