Head Women’s Flag Football Coach
JOB SUMMARY
Saginaw Valley State University, a DII member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Flag Football Coach to develop, promote, and supervise all facets of the flag football team; develop and execute strategies for the recruitment of student-athletes for highly visible regionally and nationally competitive team; organize and direct all aspects of the women’s flag football program, organizing practice sessions to enhance the team’s performance; supervise staff involved in the program and oversee budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cultivate the foundation for a sustainable future as an emerging sport and new to Saginaw Valley State University.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
- Ensure that all relevant institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed. Including, but not limited to student-athlete eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress.
- Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations by student-athletes and sport-related staff.
- Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
- Promote academic excellence and graduation. Monitor academic progress, including study table and class attendance in coordination with athletic academic advisor.
- Prepare, lead, and execute practice and game plans for both championship and non-championship seasons.
- Develop and execute a strategy for building a regionally and nationally competitive team.
- Prepare, manage, and maximize program operating budget with established fund-raising goals and sound financial practices.
- Maintain or develop fundraising strategies through camps and/or clinics and/or lessons to support the women’s flag football program operations.
- Coordinate annual giving, special events, naming opportunities and/or specific campaigns for the women’s flag football program with the director for athletic development.
- Direct and manage the women’s flag football team program recruiting efforts of high-profile DII prospective student-athletes through phone calls, electronic correspondence, scouting, attending games, on campus, and home visits, in accordance with NCAA/ITA rules and regulations.
- Manage and maximize athletic assistant grant budget.
- Oversee plan for the season, including competitive schedules and practices, travel arrangements, practice schedule, facility use, equipment, and apparel.
- Serve as an ambassador for the women’s flag football program and the University’s Athletic Department through committee service, public speaking opportunities in the local community, state, and region, and communicate with media, alumni, parents, and friends of the University.
- Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with student-athlete women’s flag football alumnae.
- Participate in Athletics Department-initiated fund-raising, community service, and engagement programs.
- Participate in institutional professional development and training. Keep current with sport-related literature; serve on committees and attend clinics, conventions, and other meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Deputy Athletic Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functional supervision is exercised over the assistant coaching staff, flag football.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two or more years of relevant coaching experience in women’s flag football.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Exceptional leadership skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse community.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
- Willingness to travel nights and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three or more years of previous coaching or playing experience in flag football at the college level.
- Previous head coaching experience in flag football is preferred.
- One year of successful recruitment and a strong desire and ability to successfully recruit.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a coaching, athletic, competitive indoor/outdoor environment. Weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
