Health and Safety Coordinator

Health and Safety Coordinator

The Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (PDN) is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to support the Department's compliance with the University's health and safety requirements.

The Health and Safety Co-ordinator plays a vital role in the departmental safety team, working in partnership with staff and students to ensure that our extensive research, teaching, and other activities are conducted safely, effectively and in compliance with all legislation.

Leading and supporting the Senior Safety Technician, you will perform a range of technical and administrative duties in the Department, and provide high quality advice and guidance to our stakeholders in person, by email and through your proactive membership of various committees, including but not limited to the Health and Safety Committee, Biological Safety Committee, and Academic Staff Meeting.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, and/or possess a comparable level of practical experience. Experience of working in a laboratory environment is essential. A NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and/or IOSH Managing Safely would be beneficial, but these are not pre-requisites as training can be provided.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, computer literate, and able to work flexibly and in support of team members. Excellent communication and people skills are also prerequisites for the role, which involves interacting effectively with a wide range of researchers and other staff and building relationships across the academic and support staff communities in the Department and in the School of Biological Sciences. Please refer to the further particulars document for a full list of the essential knowledge, skills and experience required for the role.

The position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, although we also welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part time working (minimum 32 hours per week, over 5 days). Although there may be flexibility over working hours, the role requires you to work onsite most of the time (Downing Site, central Cambridge).

Informal enquiries about the post are encouraged, and should be addressed to Katie Conran, kc662@cam.ac.uk.
