Brief Statement of Duties: This position will involve teaching predominantly graduate courses with the possibility of some undergraduate courses in athletic training and related fields. This position also requires the administration of program accreditation as either the program director or clinical education coordinator. This position also includes participation in scholarly activities, academic advising, and university service. This is a campus-based position. This position is currently not available for sponsorship.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree
Discipline/Degree Area: Athletic Training, Exercise Science/Kinesiology related area, or Health Science related areas
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
BOC Certification in good standing.
MI AT License (or eligible) in good standing.
Assistant Professor level requires: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, DAT, etc.)
Associate Professor level requires: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree and must have held an Assistant or Associate position and present evidence of teaching, scholarship/professional development and service consistent with criteria established at Northern Michigan University.
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Evidence of the provision of athletic healthcare to patient populations.
Evidence of successful teaching at the university level. Evidence of research and scholarship. Ability to participate in student recruitment and retention.
Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor must have held an Assistant or Associate position and present evidence of teaching, scholarship/professional development and service consistent with criteria established at Northern Michigan University.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
- Ability to teach classroom and clinical-based courses at undergraduate and graduate levels (primarily courses within the CAATE accredited MSAT program)
- Comprehensive knowledge of CAATE Standards.
- Ability to engage in scholarship and professional development.
- Ability to develop and maintain a personal program of research and scholarship.
- Ability to engage and participate in school, college, and university service.
- Ability to supervise and mentor students as a clinical preceptor.
- Ability to assist with AT policy/procedure development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ability to participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Ability to advise students for academic and career achievement.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to analyze and critique curriculum for the purpose of maintaining accreditation standards and ensuring contemporary relevant content.
- BLS Instructor Certification
- Other relevant certifications or specialized trainings
- Experience with the use of multiple modalities for the purpose of teaching
- Three or more years provision of athletic healthcare to patient population
- Three or more years of teaching athletic training coursework at the collegiate level
- Conveying oral and written information in understandable ways and communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Clinical instruction and supervision of athletic training students.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
