General Statement of Duties
The HVAC Refrig Mechanic I installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including related fixtures; checks heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for malfunctions; maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; and performs related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including controls and related fixtures
- Checks equipment for malfunctioning by observing pressure and vacuum gauges and other indicators
- Maintains, rebuilds and repairs by replacing worn or defective parts
- Calculates heat loads for new installations; analyzes and treats both open and closed water systems
- Performs related work such as making and assembling metal ducts and chassis parts
- Maintains safety standards, quality of work and energy conservation programs
- Performs programming tasks, monitors energy systems and makes calibrations
- Uses computerized preventative maintenance programs and building management systems
Qualifications Required at Hire
- Knowledge of the standard preventative maintenance procedures for heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning systems and related electrical systems
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques followed in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration, ventilating, air conditioning and related electrical systems
- Skill in using small hand tools and power tools
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds independently
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
Minimum Entrance Requirements
At least one year full-time or equivalent part-time technical experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration, ventilating, air conditioning systems, or any equivalent combination of the required experience.
License and/or Certification Requirements
A current Driver's License. Possession of Universal EPA License.
