Heersink School of Medicine-Open Rank/Tenure-Medicine-Infectious Disease_FEB25
Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham seeks to fill positions in the renowned Department of Medicine/Infectious Diseases (ID) Division. Candidates with a variety of skill sets and outstanding track-record of accomplishments in infectious diseases are preferred to complement ongoing clinical and educational programs in the division. The UAB Immunocompromised host infectious disease (ICH/ID) program now serves a broad patient population that requires care from ID faculty trained in this specialized field. There has also been a dramatic increase in use of immunosuppressive medications, number of transplants and bridge to transplant therapies, infections with multidrug resistant organisms and use of next generation diagnostics. For these reasons, the ICH/ID Program Director needs new physicians to back-fill open weeks and to expand this program, including strengthening collaborations with the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute (CTI), Cardiovascular Institute (CVI), and Comprehensive Cancer Center.
UAB, the Department of Medicine, and the Division of ID are leaders in medical research and NIH funding. Interdisciplinary collaborations between basic and clinical faculty are a strong suit of UAB. We offer a well-developed infrastructure for cross-cutting research in inflammation, infection, and immunity. Priority will be given to those with expertise and specialized training in infections in immunocompromised hosts (including transplant recipients). Depending on applicants' credentials, qualifications, and interests, participation in general ID and/or HIV specialty care (inpatient consults, outpatient clinic) will be possible. Candidates will complement our clinical, research, and educational activities, participating in our ongoing work or developing new areas of emphasis.
Rank and tenure status will be determined based on qualifications. Salary and start-up package are negotiable. Position available for Board eligible MDs.
