Hemp Research Technician
Job Summary/Basic Function
The Hemp Lab in the Agriculture Research Development Program (ARDP) at Central State University is seeking a technician to cultivate, harvest, and process hemp samples for research activities. The individual should have experience growing, tending, and harvesting plants, preferably with hemp. The technician will assist with yearly variety trials, collection of samples and data, laboratory analyses, data processing, and reporting. Additionally, the individual will work closely with the PI to design and develop machinery prototypes for specific applications. This person is expected to work closely with other lab personnel and undergraduate students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plant, tend, and harvest variety trials
- Collect field samples
- Cut, drill, and fasten metals and plastics
- Make and assemble parts to make machine prototypes
- Order materials and supplies
- Manage lab equipment, supply, and germplasm inventories
- Maintain hemp cultivation and processing equipment
- Maintain functionality of lab and cultivation spaces
- Ability to produce outcomes under strict deadlines
- Data entry, management, and summarization
- Conduct statistical analyses and interpretation of data
- Prepare research findings for presentations and publications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledgeable of data entry management and presentation skills
- Supervise and manage undergraduate students
- Must be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work under limited supervision
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or related field
- The selected individual must be authorized to work in the United States
- The candidate must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 30lbs
- A valid driver’s license at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cultivating hemp
- Experience and interest in mentoring/teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Experience working with tractors and field implements
Special Instructions to Applicants
The position will be funded by the Evans Allen Program for the 1890 Institutions by the National Institute for Agriculture (NIFA). The position will directly report to Dr. Craig Schluttenhofer.
