Histology, Pathology, and Medicine Educator Scholar (Assistant Professor) (Career Track)
Position Highlights
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson is seeking a full-time faculty member in Histology, Pathology, and Medicine. Successful candidates will possess expertise in human gross anatomy, normal and abnormal histology, disease mechanisms, and human pathology. We are seeking a faculty member who will support the department's teaching mission in the COMT medical school, including medical students pursuing their MD degrees, as well as undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Pathology and other basic science and applied courses. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in these areas, both in classroom and online environments. Additional experience with curriculum development, including emerging trends in virtual reality instruction, integration with medical imaging diagnostics, and development of online educational courses, is preferred but not required. Opportunities to engage in scholarly activities related to medical education are available, but not necessary at this time.
Candidates must have earned a Doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences or a related field.
This is a non-tenure-track faculty position as an Educator Scholar at the Assistant Professor level. Other teaching opportunities may become available, depending on experience and interest. Research into medical education topics is optional but required for promotion.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in team-taught medical Pathology curriculum and support student-centric, active learning in the medical school curriculum.
- Coordinate medical school teaching assignments of departmental faculty.
- Participate in curriculum renewal discussions and help identify best practices in current medical curriculum educational approaches.
- Co-direct an undergraduate Pathology and Cellular Molecular Medicine course (Path/CMM 415/515). Work closely with CMM educational team leadership.
- Contribute to development of additional educational initiatives such as online courses in Pathology.
- Write pathology-based clinical cases and multiple-choice questions with a clinical emphasis.
- Align all course offerings with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standards.
- Coordinate and direct rotating 4th year medical student rotations (Path 850A/B).
- Attend core department and college level faculty and teaching meetings.
- Optional activities include teaching in Pathology resident and fellows' Core curriculum and/or attendance at clinical conferences such as surgical pathology, grand rounds, tumor boards.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expertise in human gross anatomy, normal and abnormal histology, mechanisms of disease, and human pathology.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences or anatomical sciences with emphasis on the pathologic basis of disease. (MD, DO, PhD or equivalent.
- Teaching experience in the Histology, Pathology, and Medicine areas at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with curriculum development, including emerging trends in virtual reality instruction, integration with medical imaging diagnostics, and development of online educational courses.
