OVERVIEW
Courses in Human Communication provide introductory-level study of the theories and skills of public speaking, argument and persuasion, and interpersonal and intercultural communications. Students have an opportunity to perform skills and to research and critically analyze messages in various contexts. The curriculum is designed for students interested in pursuing skills in marketing, public relations, communications, and to satisfy general education requirements.
College of Marin is looking for Full-time Faculty who:
- advocate for students and have a student-centered approach to education;
- have the ability to inspire intellectual curiosity and academic excellence in their students;

- have experience/commitment to educating basic skills, ESL, generation 1.5 students, underserved students, students with differing abilities, and veterans;
- are willing to learn/use best practices and innovative pedagogies such as learning communities, and contextualized or collaborative learning;
- are committed to maximizing effective uses of technology in their teaching both in class or through distance education;
- are willing to work collaboratively;
- have experience with student learning outcomes assessment.

ONLINE INSTRUCTION
All faculty members must be available to provide instruction in the classroom (in person). Please note that the College does not offer online-only teaching assignments.
Essential Functions
- Provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter;
- Prepare and evaluate all class assignments and examinations;
- Advise, assist and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes;
- Participate in program activities including curriculum development, evaluation and decision-making, program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development;
- Contribute to development of program policies and procedures;
- Participate in college professional or shared governance committees and in departmental activities such as maintaining course outlines, program review, student learning outcomes assessment, other curricular development, etc.;
- Maintain and post office hours;
- Maintain and submit accurate student records in a timely manner as required;
- Maintain currency and knowledge in assigned area of responsibility;
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
- A Master's degree in Speech, Speech Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Rhetoric, Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, or Organizational Communication; OR
- A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in Drama/Theater Arts, Mass Communication, or English; OR
- The equivalent*; AND
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
Beyond the Minimum Qualifications, the following teaching competencies are desirable:
- Understanding equity as the recognition of historical and systemic disparities in opportunity, access, and outcomes and providing the resources necessary to address those disparities.
- Ability to identify and implement equity-based, student-centered strategies to actively increase inclusion and racial equity in a community college setting.
- Experience teaching communication courses, with a focus on rhetoric, debate and persuasion, and public speaking.
- Expertise in the Communication discipline, with specialization in rhetoric and speech communication.
- Competencies in and enthusiasm for curriculum and course development, teaching and learning theory, information literacy, and student learning outcomes assessment.
- Familiarity with and openness to utilize multiple teaching modalities and approaches, including equity approaches, Universal Design for Learning, and online teaching and learning.
- Enthusiasm for continual professional learning and the testing of innovative, multimedia teaching strategies to engage students and develop critical thinking and communication skills.
- Knowledge, training and experience with online pedagogy and technology.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative environment, providing peer-to-peer mentoring and other forms of mentoring, and/or providing community service.
- Ability to navigate legislative changes as impacts the Communication discipline and curriculum (ex. Common Course Numbering, CalGETC).
- Commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the College of Marin.
- Evidence of commitment to professional growth and service which may include, but is not limited to, membership professional organizations, presenting workshops, attending conferences or training, development of curriculum and instructional materials, membership in school/college committees or production of classroom-based research.
