Join James Cook University's Research & Innovation Services team in beautiful Townsville as our new Human Ethics Officer. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on research that benefits our communities and advances knowledge.
- Full-time – 36.25 hours per week
- Fixed term to 2 February 2028
- Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
HEWL 5: $78,740 - $89,310 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
About The Opportunity
As our Human Ethics Officer, you'll play an essential role in ensuring research involving human participants meets the highest ethical standards. You'll work closely with researchers across diverse disciplines, the Human Research Ethics Committees and Chairs across Australian and Singapore Campuses providing guidance and support while maintaining JCU's commitment to ethical research practices.
What You'll Do
- Review and assess human research ethics applications
- Provide expert advice to researchers on ethical requirements and best practices
- Support the Human Research Ethics Committee in decision-making processes
- Develop and deliver ethics training programs for research staff and students
- Maintain comprehensive records and ensure compliance with national guidelines
- Collaborate with other ethics officers and research support teams
What We're Looking For
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as ethics, research methodology, or related discipline
- Strong understanding of human research ethics frameworks and regulations
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Experience in research environments or ethics review processes preferred
- Attention to detail and strong analytical thinking abilities
- Commitment to supporting diverse research communities
