Job Description
Purpose and Scope
University of Missouri Human Resources provides leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of human resource services and programs for faculty and staff across all campuses and the health system. Collectively with campus colleagues, we serve as a strategic and trusted advisor, support an inclusive and dynamic culture and workforce, and pursue continuous improvement through knowledge, collaboration, and leadership.
This position supports the University of Missouri’s human resources strategic priorities and initiatives and has key responsibilities for serving as the point of contact for MU Health Care employees and retirees for benefit and retirement administration. This position serves as a member of the UM System HR Generalist team and may support other campuses or areas as needed. While serving in a HR Generalist role, the primary function of this position is dedicated to the education and administration of benefits and retirement plans.
Responsibilities
40% Serve as a single point of contact to support and guide employees planning for and during the retirement process.
- Conduct one-on-one retirement planning appointments
- Determine retirement and retiree insurance eligibility based on age and service criteria
- Assist employees with preparing and understanding retirement estimates
- Assist retiring employees in completing and submitting appropriate documents to initiate the retirement process
- Meet with retiring employees to assist in completion of pension benefit election forms
25% Provide exemplary customer service and consulting, serving as subject matter expert to deliver employees, retirees, and prospective job candidates with accurate and timely information in matters related to retirement programs or benefit plans.
- Provide education and answers to complex questions regarding benefit & retirement plan offerings, eligibility, deadlines, and processes.
- Provide one-on-one consultations as needed, ensuring professional and effective communication and service at all times.
- Subject matter expertise may include medical claims issues, pharmacy, dental, vision, health and welfare benefits, and university retirement plans.
- Maintain knowledge and expertise of programs, policies, and laws to ensure compliance of information, processes, and decisions.
20% Deliver employee presentations, including new employee orientation and retirement planning education, to small and large groups to provide education on retirement and benefit offerings.
- Conduct educational presentations for groups including regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings or events.
- Conduct informational meetings during Annual Enrollment for UM System and UMC employees. Meetings may include weekends and/or evenings as necessary.
10% Serve as a member of the Office of Human Resources team dedicated to serving employees and understanding the needs of the organization through partnerships, collaborations and effective teams.
- Establish and foster organizational relationships and networks to develop a keen understanding of the organizational culture, mission, vision, and values.
- Attend departmental meetings including HR team meetings and department staff meetings as requested.
- Collaborate with other members of the UM System HR Generalist team to provide assistance or support outside of assigned area as needed.
- Work in collaboration with HR Business Partners and recruitment to provide benefits and retirement education and support.
5% Other duties as assigned
Shift
Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or finance and a minimum three years of relevant experience, with preference for benefit plan and/or retirement administration, customer service, medical claims processing, and other retirement or benefits related functions.
Demonstrated success in establishing rapport and building effective relationships with colleagues and customers.
Demonstrated use of good judgement, analytical skills, and professional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to understand UM’s Health and Welfare and Retirement Plans and interpret impact to faculty, staff, and retirees.
Familiarity with university systems (PeopleSoft, Perceptive Content, etc.) and policies.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
