The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a solutions and service-driven HR Business Partner to support leaders and employees across the organization. This role focuses on delivering high-quality HR support through effective recruitment, employee relations, and day-to-day partnership with managers. This is a hands-on role where you'll provide timely guidance, drive processes forward, and help ensure HR practices are consistent, compliant, and aligned with organizational needs. This role is ideal for someone who values responsiveness, ownership, and continuous development in their HR practice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
- Lead full-cycle recruitment for the organization in partnership with hiring managers, developing effective hiring strategies and supporting managers in making informed hiring decisions.
- Facilitate recruitment training sessions for managers to ensure understanding of hiring processes, best practices, and compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline recruitment processes and introduce new ideas and tools that improve efficiency and the overall hiring experience.
Employee Relations
- Conduct employee relations investigations from intake through resolution, ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes while maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Provide guidance to managers on employee relations matters, performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
HR Consultation & Leadership Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers by providing thoughtful HR guidance and supporting leaders in navigating workplace challenges.
- Partner with leadership to support workforce planning, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong ownership and follow-through by managing priorities effectively, responding to leadership needs in a timely manner, and ensuring HR initiatives and responsibilities are completed.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain working knowledge of employment laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other applicable federal and state employment regulations.
- Ensure HR practices and decisions align with organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Employee Engagement & Organizational Culture
- Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Participate in the Employee Engagement Team (EET), contributing to and occasionally leading initiatives that promote employee recognition, engagement, and organizational culture.
Data & HR Operations
- Review employee data and workforce reports to identify trends and provide insights to HR leadership.
- Review and audit employee change transactions in Workday to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Collect and analyze exit interview data and prepare summary reports to support organizational improvements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the communication and rollout of HR programs and organizational initiatives.
- Assist HR leadership with workforce data analysis and strategic HR initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Actual schedule to be discussed with candidate selected for position. Option to work hybrid (some onsite and some from home) available. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree and 3-4 years of related work experience, or a combination of 7-10 years of relevant training and work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong skills to follow issues and projects through to completion.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to utilize web applications and HRIS systems.
- Proven effective, accurate and clear communication with proficient verbal, written, and reading skills in business English.
- Strong interpersonal and consultative skills with individuals at all levels of an organization.
- Proficient computer skills including advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams, and PowerPoint, HRIS databases, electronic timekeeping, and cloud-based storage systems.
- Able to quickly learn and train others to use new computer technology.
- Able to manage all activities and highly confidential information with discretion, good judgment, courtesy, patience, and tact.
- Able to effectively define and prioritize realistic and specific goals and objectives.
- Able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines and satisfy expectations.
- Able to independently research and resolve problems, respond to others in a timely manner.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member with a high standard of integrity and ethics
- Ability and interest in supporting the strategic vision and annual goals of the department and organization.
- Proven ability to analyze and conceptualize complex issues and consequences to achieve positive results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master's degree in management, human resources, or related field.
- PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience working with unions is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge with HRIS and Time Tracking System.
COMPENSATION:
Pay: The pay range for this position is $6,666.67 to $7,500 per month.
