Special Information
- This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
- Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. - Employees of Facility Services are considered essential staff and must report to work when the university is closed for emergencies. This position is required to participate in on-call, call back duties and snow removal, which can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Under established circumstances will respond to emergency dispatch calls within set timeframes Administrative or Campus Living buildings.
About the Department/College
The HVAC department is a key component of the Facilities Services team. Our technicians are responsible for servicing and maintaining a wide range of systems, including hydronic heating systems, DX units, steam converters, laboratory exhaust systems, domestic hot water steam converters, boilers, and chillers. Open and effective communication with customers and internal departments is essential to our success. The department provides comprehensive HVAC support for the entire Flagstaff Mountain Campus, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
About the Position
Leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of university heating and cooling systems in NAU facilities to ensure they are operating effectively. Oversees the inspection of university HVAC equipment, diagnoses problems, and makes necessary adjustments. Compiles and presents maintenance reports with information related to university HVAC needs and makes recommendations for improvements to department leadership.
Responsibilities Include
Administrative Support - 60%
- Acts as a subject matter expert and/or mentor; may assign work to others and monitor its execution.
- Leads HVAC services to ensure campus facilities are properly maintained.
- Directs department response to HVAC maintenance requests from campus members regarding NAU facilities.
- Answers questions from members of the campus community and resolves issues in a timely manner.
Leadership - 25%
- Acts as a subject matter expert and/or mentor; may assign work to others and monitor its execution.
- Leads HVAC services to ensure campus facilities are properly maintained.
- Directs department response to HVAC maintenance requests from campus members regarding NAU facilities.
- Answers questions from members of the campus community and resolves issues in a timely manner.
Compliance - 10%
- Ensures appropriate documentation for all HVAC maintenance and compliance with university policies.
- Inspect construction and maintenance projects for adherence to building code and NAU Design Guidelines and Technical standards.
Other - 5%
- Performs calculations for estimates of work.
- Records time and materials for customer billing.
- Presents reports and communications to provide information on necessary adjustments to campus HVAC systems.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate bachelor's degree.
- 5 years of relevant experience.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.*
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a four year federally approved technical training program in the repair and maintenance of HVAC/Refrigeration

Compensation
- Salary range begins at $58,882.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
