Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to maintain system
reliability and energy efficiency.
Assist with installation, replacement, and retrofitting of HVAC
components and equipment.
Make adjustments using building automation systems ( BAS / EMS
) within assigned permissions.
Identify potential system issues and recommend corrective
actions or escalation to supervisors when needed.
Technical Support
- Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and
sequences of operation.
- Provide feedback on system performance and participate in
root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all labor, parts, and system
readings in the CMMS .
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all EPA, OSHA, and mechanical code requirements for safe
HVAC service and refrigerant handling.
- Maintain EPA Section 608 certification and adhere to proper
recovery and documentation practices.
- Apply lockout/tagout and other safety procedures during
equipment service.
Customer Service & Communication
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, building occupants,
and team members regarding service needs, repairs, and
timelines.
- Provide clear written notes, recommendations, and equipment
condition reports.
- Represent the mechanical trades team professionally during
daily interactions.
Work Schedule
- Full-time; may include scheduled on-call rotations or
occasional after-hours/emergency work.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- EPA Section 608 Universal or Type II certification.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC fundamentals: refrigeration cycle,
hydronics, air distribution, and controls.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical
documentation.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and
elevated locations.
- Ability to work in hot or cold environments depending on
equipment conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Solid understanding of commercial HVAC systems
- Good communication and teamwork
- Attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Commitment to safety and compliance
Desired Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience, including
troubleshooting and repair.
- Completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program or
technical school training.
- Experience in institutional, university, hospital, or large
commercial facilities.
Additional certifications
- NATE certification
- Factory training for VRF, BAS, or commercial equipment
- Boiler operator training/certification
